Think about your favorite photo from your childhood.

I'm willing to bet that it's a candid snapshot you're thinking of, and the reason you love it is because it holds a special memory. I understand, because my favorite photos of my own family are ones that hold a story. I help families preserve what’s genuine in this season of life - not my idea of what a family should look like. Let me help you see the beauty in your everyday with a session that's designed entirely around your family's story.

Imagine not having to stress about how your family behaves in a session.

With over 10 years of experience as an informal educator and over five years of experience photographing families, I know how to read child behavior fairly well. I've learned how to prep for success, as well as go off-script when the plan isn't going as expected. And as a mom myself, I understand that big emotions happen. The most important thing you can remember in a session is this: it's okay. We'll be able to figure it out.

Life can be a blur. Let me help you breathe it in.

Time is a thief, indeed, but it doesn't have to steal all of our memories. By fostering an environment based on interacting with your loved ones, my goal is to help you enjoy the session and love your resulting images. Because we are telling your story, I encourage you to sink into the moment and be truly present in it. That's how we create and capture those genuine moments that you will cherish forever.

What if we could bottle up the most precious parts of life?

We all know time continually moves forward - seasons change, kids grow, and life marches on. Our senses are inextricably linked to our memories, so having a visual reminder of these fleeting moments in our lives helps solidify our memories. I urge you to not think of family portraits as something to put up on social media or on holiday cards, but a deeply personal investment in preserving what is most important to your family. This is why I find capturing details to be so important to sessions: we are telling your story.

FAQ

What can I expect during my session?

Just as no two families are the same, no two sessions are the same. We will design your session around your vision and needs. This is guided by my questionnaire which helps me get to know you.

What if my kids don't behave?

Every parent worries about this! I do not have big expectations for perfect behavior from kids. Instead, I design sessions around fun interaction to keep kids engaged & cheerful. And if someone needs a break, that's not a problem!

What if my spouse/partner is reluctant to take photos?

This can also be common. Sometimes the hesitation is because someone feels uncomfortable in front of the camera. I have a few strategies to help people loosen up, as well as cover preparation tips in my session guide.

I like the idea of in-home photos, but do I need a perfectly decorated house?

Nope! Every home is a good home because it is where your family is together. Your connection to each other is what truly matters the most! I have worked in homes of all sizes and aesthetics. You know what they all had in common? People lived there. There might be clutter, toys scattered everywhere, or crumbs from a rambunctious toddler. It doesn't matter! We focus on YOU.

I don't know what to wear or how to pose! Can you help me?

Yes, and yes! I have a client session guide which covers wardrobe styling tips and preparing for your session. I'm also available for questions during the planning process. I will guide you with actions and body placement as needed during your session. It won't feel much like posing, but rather just having fun with your loved ones.

Can we really get 'candid' moments on camera?

'Candid' has been used a little loosely when it comes to lifestyle photography for family portraits. Truly candid photos are caught without any input from the photographer. Instead, I urge clients to think of it as genuine moments caught on camera because I will be guiding you into spaces where these moments can be created and photographed.
